Sandals are the ill-forgotten-child of the shoe world. Too many guys throw on their sandals and some nasty clothes and head out the door. Nothing could be farther from appropriate.
How to Style Sandals
Sandals should accentuate your style-du jour. If you’re wearing a tee and shorts then a simple flip-flop is acceptable. However, if you’re wearing linen and a nice open-button down then a nicer sandal is likely in order. At the heart of the matter is: you really need more than one sandal.
Get a pair of flip-flops from just about anywhere and wear them with your more casual clothes, but make sure to keep them clean after every wearing. This usually means you should wipe them down with a cloth after you take them off.
For a nicer pair of leather sandals be sure that they are either brushed (for suedes), polished (for top calf leathers), or treated (for oil-tanned leathers) and always make sure to pair your sandals with your outfit and your belt. Sandals are not an invitation to dress poorly.
Don’t forget that your sandals are still a reflection of your style and personality. Forsaking them will leave you looking less-than-sharp about 1/3 of the year.

I hate to see men in “mandals.” They are for women’s lovely feet, not men’s uglies.
Ick.
