Opening Ceremony tries a texture game in these latest oxfords with a mixed material upper. The basis if the shoe, is brogue stamped smooth leather, however the party starts at the toe, where a rich suede is used. This immediately calls attention to your footwear and through making the pitted leather look even shinier, the Art 1 gets the formal approval. Finished with a genuine leather sole, these get extra points for the generous, five metallic eyelets.

Nice shoe, but not an oxford…
Why is it not an oxford? The eyelet tabs are stitched under the vamp, which is characteristic of the style. We will admit though, that people do get liberal with what they call their shoe’s these days.
Huh, are you seeing a different picture than I? I see the tabs stitched on top off the vamp, so it’s a derby shoe, isn’t it?
Yeah I see your point. I guess it’s on Opening Ceremony for playing fast & loose with their shoe terms, haha.
Hi, just commented on a Viberg shoe also misnamed as an Oxford when clearly a Derby. If the manufacturers are misnaming their shoes surely “the shoe buff” would acknowledge this in the text accompanying the posting. Otherwise the mistake is exponentially magnified as naif readers start using the terms Oxford/Derby/Gibson as fast and loose as the manufacturers appear to be doing.
