In a slightly more collaborative venture than most these days, Metallica’s James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujillo were each given their choice of any Vans silhouette to customize as they saw fit. To be honest, we’re astonished they didn’t all come out black, but the results are none the less intriguing, especially if you’re a fan of the iconic metal group. James Hetfield’s SK8-Hi Decon comes in all-black with inspiration coming from his favorite black boots, Lars Ulrich’s black Era Laceless gets tonal detailing on the midsection, Kirk Hammett’s Slip-On is a slightly phoned-in black (surprising, given his signature guitar) and Robert Trujillo’s Escuela model stands out with an embroidered blue mid-panel. To add depth the story, Vans will release a video for each model connecting the band to their signature shoes. Stay tuned.
