Vans California Spring 2013 “Brushed Twill” Collection
Vans California has you set for Spring with the release of their colorful ‘Brushed Twill’ collection of sneakers. Featuring the Era and Prison Issue silhouettes, each sneaker is lined with a sturdy brushed twill and lined with a micro-herringbone pattern. The Era presents a two-tone colorblock in: Biking Red/Stellar, Blue/Aluminum, Ermine/Ginger and Pearl/Green. Leather laces cross white eyelets to finish off each of the four offerings. The Velcro-strapped Prison Issue is available in Cayenne and Tea colorways for Spring 2013. Thom Browne’s designs are always a highlight for the fashion-addicted, and his Spring/Summer 2013 footwear offering is reason to see why. The New York designer has steadily grown his footwear offering over the last few seasons and this year is no exception, with a refined but substantial offering featuring penny loafers, broques and more traditional dress pieces. Hand made from the highest quality materials, these shoes – much like his entire SS 2013 range – has been described as “Preppy on acid” and we’re inclined to agree. Classic pieces are turned on their head using bright colors or materials, but the key is that Browne’s deft eye doesn’t distort the original silhouette and the results are all the better for it. Expect these pieces to hit Thom Browne retailers by March 2013.

Gourmet shoes gives us a look at their expansive offering for Spring/Summer 2013, a decidedly clean selection of sneakers to see you into the warmer months. Fairly heavy on low-top silhouettes, the collection emphasizes a minimalist aesthetic when it comes to silhouettes design, instead using patterns like various camouflages, embossed leathers, patterned cotton and crocodile skin to give the shoes their variety and lasting impression. Pierre Hardy Spring/Summer 2013 ‘Side-Zip’ Sneaker
French label Pierre Hardy releases a bold new colorway of the already distinct “Side-Zip” silhouette for Spring/Summer 2013. Drawing off a classic high-top, Pierre Hardy gives the silhouette a more contemporary remake with high-fashion elements. Constructed from a high-grade tan leather, the shoe’s appearance is dominated by the presence of a hot pink zipper running along the exterior of the shoe. Other elements include cushioned ankle support, a high ankle strap and metallic eyelets. Pierre Hardy’s Side Zip sneaker is available now at Japanese retailer RESTIR for around $600 USD.
Thorocraft Spring 2013 ‘Ross’ & ‘Mercer’ Shoes
California-based Thorocraft has made a serious name for themselves, taking classic silhouettes and re-inventing them using emerging technological processes. Two shoes that are new for Spring 2013 are the ‘Ross’ and ‘Mercer’ silhouettes. The Mercer: an oxford that features camo uppers and a distinct laser-cut ventilation pattern is a standout for Spring. The Ross Shoe features a full-grain hand woven leather upper and EVA/foam soles . The uppers are finished off with a pigskin inner lining and a raw, undyed Vachetta leather heel detail. For the 2013 campaign Pointer Footwear wanted to explore light, shadow, reflections and all the spaces in-between.
The campaign involved two processes: Models were initially photographed against blank, white studio backgrounds.
Once printed, these two-dimensional, “flat” photos were then re-shot in the studio, using lighting and sheets of coloured perspex to physically “build” the images up and out, to create an added sense of dimension and perspective. The resulting images often feel quite abstract – a playful mix of the accidental and intentional
