Vault by Vans kicks off the third installment of OG Classics with the Aloha pack. Utilizing the same design specs as their first size runs, the OG Era LX and OG Sk8-Hi LX bring forth two new colorways that channel the spirit of the ‘80s skate scene. Available in Blue Aloha/Sea Pink and Maroon Aloha/Dusty Jade Green, each original silhouette sports an alternating upper aesthetic; outstep paneling displays Van Doren’s Aloha print while the instep quarter reveals one strong hit of color. Funky checkerboard sidewall graphics from the era finish each pair. The OG Classics Aloha pack arrives this March at the Vans DQM General and key Vault retailers.
From Vans’ highly limited Vault collection comes the latest instalment of one of their mostly popular collaborations to date. This premium version of the venture sees Vans team up once again with Japanese designer Taka Hayashi, whose designs are not afraid to stand out from the rest. The Sierra Dune LX is no pretender, constructed from full grain leather and with a ridged sole, this is a serious boot, finished with some quality detailing, including an embroidered leather tongue and detailed stitching around the heel and ankle. Available now at End Clothing.
Vans kicks off spring by bringing denim to the uppers of some of our most popular silhouettes. The Suede/Denim editions of the Era and Sk8-Hi add some style to our skate shoe champions, pairing standard suede construction with crispy hits of denim at each quarter panel. An additional offering of Acid Denim colorways is exclusive to the Era and channels the grunge vibe of the ‘90s with acid washed uppers. Both packs of Denim Classics are available now at key Vans retailers.
Vans California has you set for Spring with the release of their colorful ‘Brushed Twill’ collection of sneakers. Featuring the Era and Prison Issue silhouettes, each sneaker is lined with a sturdy brushed twill and lined with a micro-herringbone pattern. The Era presents a two-tone colorblock in: Biking Red/Stellar, Blue/Aluminum, Ermine/Ginger and Pearl/Green. Leather laces cross white eyelets to finish off each of the four offerings. A tribute to iconic Vans co-founder James Van Doren, who passed away in October of 2011, Vans CA’s Van Doren Series focuses on looking into the companies archives for inspiration in silhouettes and prints; for this release, a retro American flag patterned Authentic CA. The first release for 2013, this all over distressed flag print is an instant classic, with a perfect combination of pattern applied to silhouette for a cohesive look. Finished off with an enzyme wash treatment and the original Van Doren heeltab branding, the “Retro Flag” Authentic Ca will hit select Vans California stockists this March.
Who better to team up with than superheroes? Marvel and Vans continue their collaborative footwear offerings into Spring 2013 withe this release. Featuring the Era and reissued edition of the Sk8-Hi silhouettes, the shoe are heavily printed with various Marvel icons like Thor, Captain America and Spider man. Special collaborative tongue tags feature prominently on both styles. Complete with custom packaging and additional details like leather vamps, bolted hexagonal eyelets and embossed spiderweb graphics, the Marvel x Vans Classics Spring 2013 Collection is now available at select stockists while a special edition of the Era, featuring the group collage of the Avengers, is set to hit shops in March.
In a slightly more collaborative venture than most these days, Metallica’s James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujillo were each given their choice of any Vans silhouette to customize as they saw fit. To be honest, we’re astonished they didn’t all come out black, but the results are none the less intriguing, especially if you’re a fan of the iconic metal group. James Hetfield’s SK8-Hi Decon comes in all-black with inspiration coming from his favorite black boots, Lars Ulrich’s black Era Laceless gets tonal detailing on the midsection, Kirk Hammett’s Slip-On is a slightly phoned-in black (surprising, given his signature guitar) and Robert Trujillo’s Escuela model stands out with an embroidered blue mid-panel. To add depth the story, Vans will release a video for each model connecting the band to their signature shoes. Stay tuned.
Designer Taka Hayashi has once again partnered with Vans Vault on this slick Revere Hi LX for Spring 2013. Expect to see the latest from Vans at select Vans Vault retailers in the near future.
Here’s a look at the new Vans OTW ‘Prelow’ silhouette, part of the line’s soon to be released ‘Surveyor Pack’. Taking inspiration from the desert landscapes of the American southwest, the collection “is an ode to the explorers and travelers that dared to weather this terrain.” More than just an aesthetic inspiration, the idea of exploration informed the technical materials such as pig suede and moisture-wicking Drilex. Look for the Vans OTW Prelow to drop at OTW retailers later this month.
