Original archive report

Neil Barrett has released a high end, high top, fit for anybody looking to add a little art to comfort. The standard silhouette of this model is spiced up by the loose leather upper; similar to what’s seen on a lot of common projects models. However, the real eye catching design feature is the painted white lower section which adds a taste of handmade individuality. If you’re looking for a simple high top with a bit of bold around the edges, this is your shoe.

Why the finish matters on this high-top
The May 2010 report highlights a loose leather upper and a painted-white lower section. That contrast is the distinguishing detail in this archive; it is not evidence that any later Neil Barrett high-top uses the same leather, finish or construction.
Inspect the pair, not just the silhouette
- Ask for close-ups where the painted area flexes, around the sole edge and at the heel. Look for cracking, flaking, separation and uneven touch-up work.
- Check the lining and collar for wear, and ask whether the shoe has been repainted or repaired. A restoration may alter the finish compared with the archive image.
- Try both shoes with normal socks and walk in them. Do not treat the original article’s reference to comfort as a measured fit assessment.
For second-hand purchases, request the model or style reference and a clear return policy. We are preserving a design record, not certifying a resale listing or confirming current stock.
Care without erasing the design
Keep abrasive cleaners and strong solvents away from an unidentified painted finish. Seek material-specific advice before cleaning or recolouring it. The distinction between an upper finish and the way a sole is attached is covered in our boot-construction guide; do not infer this sneaker’s construction from appearance alone.
