Choose it for the outfit—not an all-weather promise

For casual lunches, everyday outfits and smart-casual occasions, the uncluttered shape offers an alternative to sneakers. For a muddy trail, sustained rain or slippery conditions, choose footwear with explicitly suitable protection and traction rather than assuming a desert-boot profile provides them.

Originals and EVO are not identical

Check the exact model and material before comparing prices or ordering. Clarks’ current Desert Boot Black Suede specification lists a suede upper, leather lining and crepe sole. Its Desert Boot EVO Sand Suede specification instead describes an updated last, removable footbed and crepe-effect rubber sole. Those current specifications do not identify the exact pair in our historical photograph.

Fit and condition checks

Try the exact version with the socks you intend to wear. Check toe space, heel movement and pressure around the ankle; a familiar brand name does not guarantee the same fit across versions. Follow the model-specific sizing advice and check the seller’s return terms instead of treating one universal sizing rule as reliable.

For a second-hand pair, ask for clear photographs of both soles, the lining and the upper-to-sole join. Look for uneven wear, separation or damage rather than judging condition from the upper alone. We have not wear-tested or authenticated the pictured pair.

Match care to the material

Identify suede or smooth leather before selecting a cleaner or protector, and follow the maker’s instructions for that finish. Do not assume a protective treatment makes the boot waterproof.
